Industry
Industry runs on heat. From steel and cement to food and chemicals, production requires large amounts of high-temperature energy delivered continuously. Today, most of this heat still comes from fossil fuels — not because better options do not exist, but because industry has lacked solutions that match the same stability, temperature and scale. Calora enables exactly that.

Clean heat for energy-intensive industries

Industrial production depends on large volumes of high-temperature heat. Sectors such as steel, cement, chemicals and manufacturing operate continuously and often require temperatures well above 1000°C.

Today, the primary source of this heat is the combustion of fossil fuels. This is not due to its sustainability but rather because it has historically been the sole dependable method of delivering stable, high-temperature energy on a large scale.

Calora introduces a different model: storing renewable electricity as high-temperature thermal energy and delivering it as industrial heat when needed. This enables industries to replace fossil combustion while maintaining the reliability and continuity required for production.

How Calora works

Calora functions as a high-temperature thermal storage system. By combining ceramic heat storage with liquid metal heat transfer, the system can store large amounts of energy and release it as process heat on demand.

Key characteristics include:

  • High temperatures: up to 2400°C
  • Continuous delivery: stable heat for 24/7 industrial processes
  • Low system complexity: no fuel combustion, pressure systems or chemical storage
  • Modular architecture: scalable from individual plants to large industrial sites

Surplus renewable electricity or solar heat is stored in ceramic modules and later released as high-temperature heat when required by industrial processes.

Industrial applications

Calora is designed for sectors where high-temperature heat is critical to production. Typical applications include:

  • Process heat for manufacturing
  • Steam generation
  • Drying and thermal processing
  • Chemical and metallurgical production
  • Replacement of fossil boilers and furnaces

Calora delivers stable, high-temperature heat without combustion, enabling industrial companies to decarbonise some of their most energy-intensive operations while maintaining operational reliability.
